students explored the commonalities and differences between Sigmund Freud’s and C.S Lewis’ views on religion through a website for PBS’ program based on the book The Question of God. After having done so, students are asked to reflect on Freud’s statements regarding religion and how these influenced his ideas about human development and psychology, comparing and contrasting these with Biblical teachings.
Sigmund Freud was rejecting of religion and considered it as unnecessary in the presence of scientific inquiry. His views however, are in stark contrast with C.S. Lewis’, who was his contemporary. To evaluate the convergence and divergence of Psychoanalytic theory with Christian faith, students will explore the PBS website for their program The Question of God, which explores Freud’s and Lewis’ views on faith and religion. Students should be sure to click on the various links and read the videos transcriipts included, as this information will serve as the topic of the Discussion Board this week.
