Read the below and demonstrate with three of food choices in diet whether your choice was based on fact or prejudice.
True cost of food
The long term trend of food price has been going down for recent decades.  Yet, we still complain that food is too expensive, when we spend a smaller portion of our income on food than developing countries.
The majority of the population believes that processed food and fast food are cheaper than healthy food.  We have learned that this is NOT the case.  Processed food and fast food from restaurants are far more expensive than whole foods in the natural state.  If we just stop and think about it for a moment, the conclusion is inevitable for the simple fact that labor and energy are required to produce processed and fast food.  Chips and alcohol are very expensive, yet we consume them regularly.  No one is angry about the fact that it is very expensive to abuse alcohol.  In the Hot cheetos and takis video, the kids asked for 3 or 4 dollars for chips and drink as a snack, when that amount of money can feed the whole family a dinner of rice and beans.
We can say then, our choices in food are not based on facts but prejudice.  Just like any prejudice, there is a price.  The price in this case, as we have learned, is the environment and our health.
Solution
The way to a better lifestyle is based on not just facts, but the recognition of where we have gone wrong.  This is not about judgement, but how we can achieve better health, save money and the natural systems that make life possible for us.
Many argue that picking up food at a fast food restaurants is convenient.  My invitation is for us to consider that this is not the case, since none of us live in McDonalds.  We have to drive, there, park the car, order the food, wait on line.  Instead, we could prepare food for a few days in advance, and eat it for several days, right at the convenience of our own home.
